Barrel saunas have a cylindrical shape, while cube saunas have a rectangular one. Cube designs offer more headroom across the full footprint and make better use of space for bench layouts. Choose based on the shape you prefer and the space you have.
What Foundation Do Outdoor Saunas Need?
Outdoor saunas need a level foundation that can support the unit's weight. Common options include a concrete pad, a compacted gravel bed, or an engineered deck. Barrel saunas need support along the full length of the bottom staves, with air able to circulate underneath. We provide foundation specifications with each model.
How Do Outdoor Saunas Perform in Cold or Hot Climates?
Outdoor saunas are built with insulated walls and gasket systems that help keep heat inside. Cold weather will lengthen heat-up times, and direct sun can add heat to the exterior. Check each model's specifications for its operating range.
What Maintenance Do Outdoor Saunas Need?
Check the following on a regular basis:

- Check the heater elements and stones.
- Clear the ventilation openings.
- Treat the wood with a sauna-safe protectant once a year.

What Electrical Requirements Should I Consider for an Outdoor Sauna?
Electric outdoor saunas need a dedicated circuit sized for the heater's kW rating. Installation should include a GFCI disconnect that is in line of sight of the sauna but outside the sauna room. Have a licensed electrician confirm the wire gauge and circuit size for your installation.
